Rituals for the multi-hyphenate mind

The new era of self-care and wellness made for us

Du Beurre was founded in 2022 by Joan Okwori, a Nigerian-born model, creative director, and entrepreneur who has always lived between worlds - art and science, creativity and structure, ambition and care.

Growing up in Nigeria, Joan was surrounded by people who embodied many roles at once. Her mother, a beautician turned entrepreneur, built a business while raising a family and later returned to study beauty therapy in the UK. Her father was a footballer whose career was cut short by circumstance - he became an engineer, yet still pursued his passions for photography, cooking, and film.

That spirit of versatility - of refusing to be defined by a single path - became Joan’s foundation. That environment taught Joan that identity is layered, but also showed that being everything at once can be exhausting.

Du Beurre was created as a response: a sanctuary for multi-hyphenate minds to pause, reconnect, and restore themselves through clean, intentional rituals.

We believe self-care is not indulgence; it’s maintenance for your creativity, your body, and your spirit.

Du Beurre exists for those who are many things, and want to stay the best version of themselves through it all.

Du Beurre?

As a proud Nigerian, Joan is often asked why she chose a French name for her brand.

The name Du Beurre was an homage to France.

Joan witnessed her mother's struggle with sensitive skin, which limited her to using products specially made in and imported from France.

Inspired by French craftsmanship and its role in her mother’s beauty journey, Joan sought to immortalise that connection through her own creations.
